To ensure you get the most use out of your carpet for as long as possible, it is important to take good care of it. This might seem like a laborious task or one that requires professional help from a commercial carpet cleaner, but that doesn’t need to be the case.
With a few simple tips and tricks, you can clean your office, store, hotel, mosque or office carpet yourself.
Commercial carpet care: the basics
A few basic rules to get you started:
- When using carpet shampoo, be sure to follow the instructions properly.
- Never walk on a wet or damp carpet, this could damage its pile fibers.
- Thoroughly vacuum your carpet (when dry) after any cleaning treatment.
- Never pull out a loose pile yarn, always cut it off with scissors.
- Never fold a tufted carpet, always roll it up as folding might damage the backing.
Preventative care
It is said that prevention is better than cure. For carpets, this is no different. By instilling a few simple habits, you can save yourself lots of time and effort when it comes to the cleaning and maintenance of your commercial carpet.
For the best preventative care approach, we recommend:
- vacuuming your carpet regularly;
- using doormats at entrances;
- taking care of spills and dirt as soon as possible.
Stain removal
When a commercial carpet gets dirty or spilled on, it is possible that it will get stained for good. To ensure your carpet stays in top condition and you maintain your professional reputation, we recommend treating stains as soon as possible.
For the stain removal of your commercial carpet, it is important to keep in mind that not every spot can simply be removed with a damp cloth. Every type of stain requires a specific treatment. For example: the approach for grease stains differs from the approach for (dried in) water-based stains.
Another important rule to know is: never rub a tufted carpet as this could damage the carpet fibers or yarns and change the carpet structure.
